Debby Leavitt: I've always taken pictures. I bought my first camera when I was 16 years old. I studied photography at college in Hawaii.I had plenty of opportunities to photograph breathtaking scenery. This is where I realized I wasn't terribly crazy about breathtaking scenery. I liked action and people, preferably people doing some sort of action. I try to capture people as they really are. I hate the word "Cheese", why do parents want photos of their children mouthing the word provolone? I'll never understand. I like real emotions, babies crying, kids pouting, dads doing what ever is expected and he better do it quickly. Tender moments between sisters. Brothers whispering about funny face gestures they can make to upset the photographer. These are the memories I want to capture not a rehearsed child in the middle of uttering "provolone". I've shot everything from Rock concerts to fireflies, from brides to babies.I've been doing this for quite sometime and every now and then I think I might have it, I just might be decent at this... and then I wake up, oh well, I do like what I do.
